Twenty-five years ago we set up one sewing machine in a drafty barn at the edge of Asheville, North Carolina, because Clara wanted a bag that didn't exist in any store. A neighbor asked for one. Then her sister did. The barn became a workshop, the workshop became a studio, and somewhere along the way it became Clara & Owen.
All those years we've made things the slow way: Clara draws every design by hand, Owen cuts and stitches, and every piece is finished one at a time. Never a machine doing the part that matters.
